This 3-day workshop will introduce you to new ways for creating unique mixed media artworks. You’ll discover how to experiment and integrate imagery with hand-pressed monoprint techniques and various media such as acrylic paints and gel mediums, stencils, inks, graphite, and collage. Experimental in nature, this workshop gives you new ideas for pushing your work in a variety of new directions.
Open to beginners.
We can celebrate our past by sifting through historical ephemera— old photos, letters, handkerchiefs and bits of string, but how can we put them together to make works of art?Creating with these contents can be overwhelming but it can also be fun and exploratory! This workshop will enable students to create meaningful mixed media works that allow each person to embellish and organize materials in a personal way. We will use combinations of two dimensional mixed media materials such as charcoal, ink, pastel, water-based paints (including acrylics, watercolor and gouache), different grounds, transfer techniques and surface treatments as well as collage. Issues of formatting, installation and presentation will also be addressed.
Using local flora and fauna as inspiration, explore the techniques and effects specific to water based paints including inks, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints. Daily exercises focus on the marriage of formal design and experimentation. You’ll be encouraged to discover new processes and possibilities to expand and inspire new art works..
