These paintings are about hope and renewal. Optimistic in tone, everything is blooming and abundant. Yet, the reality is that we have survived a pandemic, we are witnessing another war, injustice abounds, and the climate is certainly not improving. Through it all, we continue to seek places for refuge, having learned how to create isolated protective spaces which have become a necessity for self-preservation.

“Sky Islands” are places that I imagine we will always seek out for comfort and security. `They are a symbolic state of mind and a reminder that time is passing, and, much like the seasons, we must appreciate the fleeting, ever-changing beauty and precariousness that surrounds us. Patience has rewarded us with this celebration of new life…it is time to emerge and embrace spring!
