We can celebrate our past by sifting through historical ephemera— old photos, letters, handkerchiefs and bits of string, but how can we put them together to make works of art? Creating with these contents can be overwhelming but it can also be fun and exploratory! This workshop will enable students to create meaningful mixed media works that allow each person to embellish and organize materials in a personal way. We will use combinations of two dimensional mixed media materials such as charcoal, ink, pastel, water-based paints (including acrylics, watercolor and gouache), different grounds, transfer techniques and surface treatments as well as collage. Issues of formatting, installation and presentation will also be addressed.
